Daily Oat Face Mask

I made a face mask for people with skin...

How We Got Here - Eczema

An Indian dermatologist changed everything for me. I’m SE Asian, she’s South Asian, and never-before has someone looked at my skin with such understanding as she had. I believe any doctor who does a good job should be able to treat people of all skin colors, but the medical field hasn’t always been fair. So when I got a rash on my eyelid, I went to my in-network dermatologist, got poked and prodded, and when the doctor shared his thoughts, he looked right past me and told the MA what to do.

Never before have I felt so aware of my body in such an uncomfortable way. I sat on the exam table and felt like a task that needed processing. I felt the body I try so hard to take care of was being viewed as a faulty object, in need of diagnostics. When I got my prescription, it worked at first. But, Triamcinolone thins the skin, and the reoccurring rash on my eyelid wasn’t about to become an eyelid piercing.

I paid an out-of-network provider for a dermatologist appointment. And from one POC to another I learned that my skin’s susceptible to a unique set of criteria . I never knew I needed products that support melanin. Although I rarely get sunburns on my face, I never knew UV exposure was triggering my acne. And I didn’t know that oat baths could address the eczema on my eyelid.

Sure, I was a dumb boy who never thought much of his skin. But, I stated making these little oatmeal face masks, and I found a way to calm my eczema. So I started sharing the masks with my friends, when I got their feedback I changed the recipe, and a year later I’m sharing it with the world.

My recipe is for my skin and skin like mine. I add licorice for it’s ability to regulate melanin production and reverse hyperpigmentation. I add chrysanthemum for its ability to shrink pores. I add tea for an antioxidant boost. And I incorporate a few other ingredients to boost moisture retention, balance pH, and make your fae feel like it’s getting a big hug.

I’m happy to be here. Something that started out as a negative experience for me, is becoming something helpful for everybody!
